Hughes is an outer rural locality of Darwin. The name of the locality derived from the war-time airfield which was named after W A Hughes.[2]
Hughes Airfield was recently resurfaced by the Northern Territory Government and is sometimes used by water-bombing aircraft during bushfire season. [3]
