Hossam El-Badry (Arabic : حسام البدري born March 23, 1960) is an Egyptian football manager and former footballer who played as a defender. He has served previously the manager of the Egyptian U-23 national team and Al-Ahly SC.

Football career

Club career

El-Badry began his career with Al-Ahly in 1970 when he joined the team's youth academy. After 8 years in the academy, El-Badry made his debut for the first team in 1978/79 under Ahly's coach Hidegkuti against El-Olympi which Ahly won it 3–1, Ahly and Zamalek match season 1981 is considered El-Badry's great match thought his career after a great performance leading el ahly for 1–0 win to make Al-Ahly League Champion after a hard competition with Ahly rival El-Zamalek. Injury ended El-Badry's football Career after a cut in the cruciate ligament of the knee in 1984 and the period of treatment took more than a year and a half until he decided to retire in 1987.[1]

National career

El-Badry played 18 matches with his national side Egypt, and played in Olympic Games qualifier in Moscow in 1980.

Managing career

El-Badry began his managing career as an assistant manager to Ahly's coach Manuel José after the death of Thabet El-Batal in 2005, In 2009 after Manuel José departure, Al-Ahly named the Portuguese manager Nelo Vingada, just after 5 days of signing with Al-Ahly he resigned from his position due to family problems, After that Al-Ahly Named El-Badry as the Club new manager for a one season-deal. El-Badry Became the first Egyptian Manager for Al-Ahly since 1993.[2] For the 2010–11 season, the club administration renewed their faith in El-Badry after he won the 2009-10 Egyptian Premier League and the 2010 Egypt Super Cup, however he resigned on 21 November 2010 after a series of disappointing results. In December 2010. he was announced as the manager of Sudanese club Al-Merreikh SC.
