Hippopodes

The Hippopodes in Medieval bestiaries were a race of humanoids with horses' hooves. According to Pliny the Elder,[1] they shared an island with two other legendary races: the Panotti and Oeonae.

According to “A 500-year-old map used by Columbus reveals its secrets,” an article written by National Geographic, the actual map used by Christopher Columbus showed details of certain creatures in some known lands including hippopodes located in “Central Asia.” The same map also showed Australia a hundred years before it was officially discovered and reference to a porcupine- previously unknown in Europe.

That map was dated 1491.
