"Hideaway" is a 1995 song by American house-music group De'Lacy. It has been remixed and re-released several times.

Release

"Hideaway" was written by Kevin Hedge and Josh Milan, published by Corp. of America and Kumba Music (BMI), and produced by Blaze. It is sung by lead vocalist Rainie Lassiter. The Deep Dish remix peaked at number 1 in Italy[2] and number 9 on the UK Singles Chart in 1995.[3] A remixed version, called "Hideaway 1998", which featured a mix by Nu‑Birth,[4] peaked at number 21 in 1998. The song was released a third time in 2006.

Impact and legacy

Music critic Tom Ewing said that "Hideaway" was probably his "favourite single of 1995."[5]

Mixmag ranked it 2nd in their list of The Greatest Songs of 1995, whilst Face ranked it 21st.[6]

Mixmag ranked the song at number 52 in their list of The 100 Best Dance Singles of All Time in 1996, and also nominated the song for their Greatest Dance Track of All Time title in 2012.[7]

DJ Magazine ranked it number 10 in their list of Top 100 Club Tunes in 1998.[8]

IDJ ranked it number 28 in their list of The 50 Greatest Dance Singles in 2004, .[9]

The Guardian featured the song on their A history of modern music: Dance in 2011.[10]

MTV Dance ranked "Hideaway" at #42 in their list of The 100 Biggest 90's Dance Anthems Of All Time in November 2011.[11]

The group Sol Brothers sampled "Hideaway" in their song "That Elvis Track" in 1997.

British DJ and producer duo Hoxton Whores covered "Hideaway" in 2003.

Barefoot covered "Hideaway" on the 2005 single "It's Like That/Hideaway".
