Hidden Orchestra is the solo studio project of multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer Joe Acheson, whose albums and live shows feature a wide variety of guest musicians from all kinds of musical backgrounds. Formed in Edinburgh, Acheson and the band's regular live members Poppy Ackroyd (violin/piano), and drummers Tim Lane and Jamie Graham, are currently based in Brighton, the Scottish borders, and Barcelona.

Hidden Orchestra's releases feature a wide variety of guest musicians from different musical backgrounds, recorded separately, and combined by Joe Acheson in his studio to create an imaginary orchestra that does not really exist.

Hidden Orchestra's debut album Night Walks was released in September 2010 on Tru Thoughts Records and featured a fusion of IDM, World music, Electronica, Reggae, Dub, Post-Rock, hip-hop, DnB and jazz. Guest musicians, improvising, natural sounds and contrasts are combined with electronic effects to make the music emotional and energetic.[1]

The album succeeded all over Europe. It got the "Album of the Month" at BBC Radio 1 and was listed in iDJ´s top albums of 2010. In January 2011 a vinyl deluxe version was published on the German label Denovali.

Since 2011, they have performed over 250 live shows in over 30 countries.

A second album entitled Archipelago was released on 1 October 2012.
