Hey! Say! JUMP is a nine-member Japanese all-male band under the Japanese talent agency Johnny & Associates. The name "Hey! Say!" refers to the fact that all the members were born in the Heisei period, and "JUMP" is an acronym for "Johnny's Ultra Music Power." They are also known as HSJ or just JUMP.

Like agency seniors, Hikaru Genji and V6, the group is split into two sub-groups: Hey! Say! BEST ("Boys Excellent Select Team") and Hey! Say! 7 (not to be confused with the temporary group with the same name). The sub-groups consist of the five oldest members (BEST) and the four youngest members (7) respectively. The average age of the group, at the time of their debut, was 15.7 years, with the youngest member being thirteen and the oldest being seventeen. The group has sold over 2,386,402 copies in Japan alone.[1] They debuted in 2007 with ten members, becoming the largest group to debut in Johnny's history.

In 2011, Morimoto was indefinitely suspended from the group following an underage smoking scandal.[2] As a result, the band now has nine members.

2011: Yan Yan JUMP, Morimoto's suspension, The Smurfs

Hey! Say! JUMP and other Johnny's Jr. members starred in the 2011 variety show Yan Yan JUMP. The name and theme of the show are based on Yan Yan Utau Studio, a program that aired roughly twenty years previously, that featured senior celebrities of Johnny & Associates.[12]

The group was surrounded by controversy in June 2011 after photos of Ryutaro Morimoto smoking while underage were leaked. When he was asked about the photos, he said "it was alright," that it was, "no big deal."[13] The following day, in response to the scandal, Johnny's Entertainment issued a statement of apology and planned to suspend Morimoto from all of his activities indefinitely.[14] Following the removal of Morimoto's profile from the official Johnny & Associates website, Johnny Kitagawa himself made an official announcement on the issue. He stated that Morimoto now has ambitions to focus on studying and denied any possibility of him returning.[15]

On June 29, 2011, the group released a new single with the name of "OVER". It peaked at number one on the Oricon singles chart on its first day. This has made it Hey! Say! JUMP's highest selling single since "Ultra Music Power" as their debut song back in 2007.

On September 21, 2011, they released their ninth single, "Magic Power".[16] This was their first solo without Morimoto, due to the smoking scandal and suspension. "Magic Power (Hey! Say! JUMP) Magic Power" was used as the theme for the Japanese dub of the movie The Smurfs, in which members Yamada and Chinen provided the voices for Clumsy Smurf and Brainy Smurf respectively.
