Herbert Smith (birth registered third ¼ 1915[1] – death uncertain) was an English professional rugby league footballer of the 1930s and 1940s. He played at club level for Batley Shamrocks, Castleford, Bramley, Batley (World War II guest), and Bradford Northern, as a centre, prop, or second-row, i.e. number 3 or 4, 8 or 10, or 11 or 12, during the era of contested scrums.[2][3][4] Herbert Smith served with army during World War II, in 1944 he was selected for the R.L. Services XV, but was unable to play due to training for the Normandy landings.

Herbert Smith played right second-row, i.e. number 12, in Castleford's 11-8 victory over Huddersfield in the 1934–35 Challenge Cup Final during the 1934–35 season at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 4 May 1935, in front of a crowd of 39,000,[5] and played in Bradford Northern's 8-4 victory over Leeds in the 1946–47 Challenge Cup Final during the 1946–47 season at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 3 May 1947.
