Henry Real Bird

Henry Real Bird (born July 24, 1948), a member of the Crow Nation,[1] is a poet.

Real Bird grew up ranching on the Crow Reservation in Montana, and competed as a saddle bronc rider in college. "Writing is harder," he said. "But one fed the other."[2] Real Bird was appointed as Montana's Poet Laureate in 2009.[3] He still lives in and draws inspiration from the land of the Little and Big Horn Valleys.[4] Horses picture large in Real Bird’s creative work[5] and are the thread of his Rivers of Horse CD. In the summer of 2010, as Montana’s Poet Laureate, Real Bird traveled by horseback 415 miles to distribute books of poetry.[6]
