Heli Pauliina Laaksonen (born 28 September 1972, Turku) is a Finnish writer, poet and performer. She lives in Rauma in southwest Finland.[1] Laaksonen writes in the dialect of south-west Finland.

Laaksonen's audiobook Jänes pussis, which is read by herself, sold 15,000 copies in Finland.[2] She received the Larin Paraske Prize by the Kalevala Women's Federation in 2009.[3]

Life

Laaksonen grew up in Uusikaupunki. From her mother's side her roots are in Halikko, while her father's family is from Lokalahti.

Laaksonen studied at the University of Turku with a major degree in Finnish and graduated as a Master of Philosophy in 2000. He also studied at the University of Tartu in Estonia in 1992 and 1999. Laaksonen worked as a teacher at the Helsinki School of Social Communication and Language in 1996-2000 and as an University of Helsinki Applied Sciences as a Communications Instructor in 1997-2001. In 2001-2004, she worked as a Laitila cultural project manager, and since 2004, she has had her own business, Sanatoimisto Hulimaa. In 2011, Laaksonen moved to Rauma Lappi.

She has also had several poetry tours around Finland and performances with writer Elina Wallin.[4] With Wallin Heli Laaksonen has made a book for children: Semmoset ja Tommoset - Tapleti arvotus is written by Wallin and illustrated by Laaksonen.

Laaksonen was interested in Estonian poetry. She translated poems written by Jan Rahman's Võru dialect to the dialect of the southwest after having studied Rahman's work in 1997.
