Helen Agcaoili Summers Brown

Helen Agcaoili Summers Brown (May 16, 1915 - January 25, 2011), also known as Auntie Helen, was a Filipino-American teacher and librarian, and the founder of the Pilipino American Reading Room and Library.[1][2] She was born in Manila to a Filipino mother and an Anglo father, and moved to America after her graduation from Manila Central High School.[1] She then studied at Pasadena Junior College, and later earned a master's degree from University of California, Los Angeles.[1] Subsequently she became a teacher for the Los Angeles Unified School District.[1]

She opened the Pilipino American Reading Room and Library in 1985, and served as the librarian for it.[2][3][4][5] This library was created by her adding to the private library collection her father had started.[1]
