Martin Sebastian Vogt, best known by his stage name as Haywyre, is an American musician, music producer, composer, and DJ.
Early life
Vogt was born in Lafayette, Indiana.[1] He studied piano at six years old and took lessons at seven.[2] His interests in electronic music and piano instrumentals grew when he lived in Austria. He was exposed to jazz and hip-hop for the first time there. When he moved back to the United States in 2008, he started using the stage name Haywyre.[3] Upon leaving school, he moved to Vancouver to pursue a musical career.[2]
Career
Vogt signed to Canadian record label Monstercat in 2013, releasing two singles that year.[4] The following year, his debut Monstercat full-length album "Two Fold Pt. 1" was released in March.[5][1] He was the first artist to release an LP through Monstercat.[2][6] He was ranked seventh on Billboard's Next Big Sound chart.[7] Vogt's Monstercat career came to place when he first started talking to fellow producer Fractal, who released on the label. Vogt sent him some of his work before eventually sending him an original track. Fractal then told him that Monstercat's A&R Jon might be interested in signing the track.[8] He later released his second Monstercat album "Two Fold Pt. 2".[9]
Musical style
Vogt's music is originally inspired by the jazz sounds he was exposed to when he moved to and grew up in Austria. The originality and ideas of his music comes from his jazz and classical knowledge base. His music can be described as 'memorable melodies and jazz/classical-influenced chord progressions in the context of progressive electronic music'. The synthetic and organic elements in his sounds are inspired by artists such as Noisia, Flying Lotus and Hans Zimmer. Piano is Vogt's primary instrument for composing music. He also uses Nektar P6 panorama keyboard controller to produce melodies.[3]
His music is described as an adventurous feel, drawing from dubstep and glitch-hop while maintaining a melodic focus.[1]
