Fudbalski klub Hajduk Beograd (Serbian Cyrillic: Фудбалски клуб Хајдук Београд), also commonly known as Hajduk Lion, is a football club based in Zvezdara, Belgrade, Serbia. They currently compete in the Belgrade Zone League, the fourth tier of the national league system.
The club has a long-standing rivalry with nearby neighbours Zvezdara. Matches between the two sides are known as the Zvezdara derby.
History
In 1993–94, the club won the Serbian League (Group North), thus earning promotion to the Second League of FR Yugoslavia.[1] They finished second in the NATO bombing-shortened 1998–99 season, winning promotion to the First League of FR Yugoslavia. They immediately suffered relegation back to the second tier after finishing 18th out of 21 clubs in their debut season in the top flight. In 2003–04, the club won the Second League of Serbia and Montenegro, thus gaining promotion to the 2004–05 First League of Serbia and Montenegro.[2] They eventually finished the bottom of the table, before being administratively relegated to the Serbian League Belgrade. In the 2006–07 season, the club finished in first place and got promoted to the Serbian First League. They spent the next two seasons in the second tier, before suffering relegation back to the third tier of Serbian football. In the 2008–09 Serbian Cup, the club surprisingly progressed to the quarter-finals, being eliminated by Partizan.[3]
