Hair Cuttery is a United States-based unisex hair salon, founded by Dennis and Ann Ratner in 1974.

The first salon opened in West Springfield, Virginia, and the enterprise has since expanded to become the largest privately held salon chain in the United States,[1] with locations up and down the East Coast, the Chicago metropolitan area, Florida, and New England. One of the founders, Ann Ratner, was originally from Great Britain.[1]

Privately held Ratner Companies operates Hair Cuttery, BUBBLES, Salon Cielo and Spa, ColorWrks, and Salon Plaza. With nearly 1,000 salons, Ratner Companies supports more than 14,000 stylists across 14 states. Hair Cuttery competes with Supercuts, Fantastic Sams, Sport Clips, Great Clips and several other franchised hair salon businesses.

History

The brainchild of Dennis and Ann Ratner, Hair Cuttery now encompasses approximately 12,000 Associates with over 850 Salons in 16 states. The company has about 12,000 associates and 850 salons in multiple countries. Dennis and Ann Ratner also have other business salons that are somewhat similar to their highest achieving salon, Hair Cuttery. It is the largest family-owned hair salon business.[1]

Hair Services

Hair Cuttery has donated haircuts to service men and women. They ran this through a share-A-Haircut program.[2]

Background

The main enterprise is Hair Cuttery, an 800-unit value-priced salon chain found on the East Coast and the Chicago area, comprising both company-owned and franchised operations. Although Hair Cuttery offers a full complement of hair care services, no appointment is necessary. The Hair Cuttery is a well known salon company that has been growing for years.
