The HESA Kowsar (Persian: کوثر, "thunderbolt") is an Iranian domestically-built jet trainer and strike aircraft.[1][2][3] It is derived from the American Northrop F-5. The Kowsar will be produced in single and two-seater versions. The aircraft is equipped with new fourth generation avionics in combination with an advanced fire control system.[4][5][6]

Western analysts have described the plane to be inefficient as a weapon but having potential for training a new generation of Iranian fighter pilots.[7]
