Hettige Yasasiri Ranjith Perera is a Sri Lankan academic and the founding Dean of the Faculty of Engineering at the General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University.[1] He was also a former head of Department of Electrical Engineering at the University of Moratuwa Sri Lanka.[2] Between 2013 and 2015 he served as the Chairman of the Arthur C. Clarke Institute for Modern Technologies.
Born in a remote village in the eastern edge of Colombo district he completed his school education at Nalanda College Colombo and graduated from University of Moratuwa with a B.Sc in Electrical Engineering whereafter he worked for the Ceylon Electricity Board as an engineer.
He later earned a Doctor of Engineering degree from RWTH Aachen University in Germany where he enjoyed a distinguised academic career. He is a Chartered Engineer, Member of Institution of Engineers, Sri Lanka and served in regulating the energy sector as Director General, Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka from 2008 to 2010.[3]
