Héroux-Devtek is a Canadian company based in Longueuil, Quebec,[1] specializing in the manufacture and repair of various industrial components, energy, and aviation. The greatest achievement of this undertaking was the landing gear of the Apollo Lunar Module that put Neil Armstrong on the moon as part of the mission Apollo 11 in 1969.

Héroux-Devtek's activities are grouped into three divisions:

  • Landing gear
  • The components of turbine gas
  • The Aerostructures Division

The firm uses various metals such as steel, aluminum, iron, and titanium. March 31, 2011, Héroux-Devtek recorded revenues of CA$357.6 million and a profit of CA$18.5 million. It employs a workforce of 1342 employees.[2]

History

The company began operations in 1942 under the name of Héroux Machine Parts Limited, in a suburb of Montreal, where the firm produced elements for various uses military (including aircraft).[3] In 1960, the company manufactured the landing gear of the Canada CL-215 and De Havilland DHC-6 Twin Otter. In 1969, Héroux helped the Apollo 11 mission for NASA.

In December 1986, the firm has completed its initial public offering by an ordinary share issue, and thus becomes a capital company open to the Montreal Exchange . In the month of November 1987, Héroux took possession of McSwain Manufacturing Corporation,[3] of Cincinnati, Ohio, a company that specializes in the manufacture of components for the industry, such as aerospace, power generation, and heavy machinery. In 1995, the company supplies parts for the aircraft Learjet 45. June 3, 1999, Héroux proceeds to the acquisitions of Metro Machining Corporation and CAT Industries Inc.,[3] a company specialized in air forces structures. In 1999, the company's shares are transferred to the Toronto Stock Exchange. In June 2000, Héroux purchased Devtek Corporation, and subsequently became Héroux-Devtek inc. In April 1, 2004, The company announced the acquisition of Progressive, inc, a manufacturer of components for the original equipment of the military based in Arlington, Texas.
