Gregory J. Slavonic is the 19th United States Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Manpower and Reserve Affairs (ASN M&RA). Secretary Slavonic retired as a Rear Admiral, after a 34-year career serving in the US Navy.[1]

Early life

Slavonic was born in Great Bend, Kansas and resided in Oklahoma City for his youth.[2]

Military career

Slavonic enlisted in the United States Navy as a seaman. Slavonic rose through service in the Vietnam War, Gulf War, and Iraq War.[3]

After completion of training as a signalman, Slavonic was assigned to the USS Constellation (CV-64) aircraft carrier to support US goals in the Vietnam War.[4]

In November, 1990, Slavonic was assigned to the staff of General Norman Schwarzkopf Jr., providing public relations support.

Private sector

Slavonic served as president of President of Flagbridge Strategic Communications. He then joined the Computer Sciences Corporation, supporting the U.S. Navy[5]

Public sector

Slavonic served as Chief of staff to United States Senator James Lankford of Oklahoma.[2] He also served as executive director of the Jim Thorpe Association.

Personal life

Slavonic helped create the USS Oklahoma Memorial at Pearl Harbor.
