Gran Tierra Energy is an energy company founded by Dana Coffield, Max Wei, James Hart and Rafael Orunesu on 6 June 2005. On 29 December 2010, it has a market capitalization of US$838 Million.[1] The company, based in Calgary, Alberta, Canada,[2] focuses on oil and gas exploration, development and production,[3] particularly in South America.[4] The company announced its intentions to merge with Solana Resources on 29 July 2008.[5]

History

In 2011, the company acquired Petrolifera Petroleum, a Canadian oil and gas company engaged in exploration and production activity in South America.[6]
