Gowry Lekshmi

Gowry Lekshmi (born 02 August 1993) is an Indian composer and singer, best known for her works in Independent Music. She is from Cherthala, a quaint village in Alappuzha of Kerala. She did BA Music course in RLV College of Music and Fine Arts, Thrippunithura and further mastering the same with MA from Kerala University.[1]

Career

Gowry Lekshmi began her film career at the age of 13 by composing a song for the Malayalam movie Casanovva.[1] Director Rosshan Andrrews, who liked her song "Sakhiye", used it in his Mohanlal-starrer Casanova that came out in 2012.[2] She was only 13 when she composed the song. The song was used in the movie when she was 15. Gowry's work was much appreciated and got tremendous media coverage then.

Gowry Lekshmi made her debut as a playback singer for music director Prasanth Pillai for the movie Ezhu Sundara Rathrikal, followed by the song Kalam Padunne for Rex Vijayan in the film Lord Livingstone 7000 Kandi.[3]

Gowry Lekshmi's big break came when she sang the soulful rendition of Aaro Nenjil in the Malayalam movie Godha.[4] “I got lots of fans and followers because of the song,” she shares, smiling. “It’s every musician’s dream to be recognised for their work, and I’m glad it happened for me too.[3]

Gowry is the youngest lady music director of Malayalam film industry and is the holder of Performer’s Certificate Holder from Trinity College of London.

Gowry has collaborated with fellow musicians to bring out her first single music video titled Thoni. The song is written, composed and sung by Gowry Lekshmi.[5]

Gowry Lekshmi is crowdfunding her new video, a new initiative in Malayalam indie music. “I have to raise ₹3.5 lakh to make the video for my song Aararo.... We have already got 80 percent of the required amount. I am confident that I will be able to make it,” gushes the musician. Aararo... will be her sixth video, the others being Thoni..., Theeye..., Maane... (lyric video), Makaramanjin... and the official video of Maane... that will be released soon.[6] She has performed in Kappa TV Music Mojo, and has released nearly 15 own compositions.

Settled in Chennai, she divides her time between her band and making new compositions, some of them with her husband and drummer, Ganesh Venkitaramani. Besides Ganesh, the others in her band are Isaac Dharmakumar, John Praveen and Godfrey Immanuel.
