On 28 March 1930, after a loss of a vote in the Dáil by the executive council, the President tendered his resignation to the Governor-General.[2]

On 2 April 1930, the Dáil approved the nomination of W. T. Cosgrave as President of the Executive Council.[3] On 3 April 1930, the 5th Executive Council of the Irish Free State (2 April 1930 – 9 March 1932) was formed by Cumann na nGaedheal. Ministers are listed in order of seniority.[4][1]
