Gordon Cumming was a Scottish footballer who played as a winger. Cumming also featured for English clubs Arsenal and Reading within his footballing career.[1]

Career

Cumming was born on 23 January 1948 in Johnstone, Scotland.[1] His primary position was as in the midfield within the role of a winger. He started his playing career at Scottish team Glasgow United. Cumming then moved to London so as to join up with Arsenal where he won the FA Youth Cup of 1966.[2] He then spent the next three years at Highbury before linking up with Reading in 1969. At the club, he was the chief taker of penalties until the arrival of Robin Friday and Alan Taylor in the side.[3][4] He was Reading's player of the year in 1971–72.[5][6] Cumming also played in the team that won Reading their first promotion for 50 years in 1976 going on to the Third Division.[7] In all, he scored 61 goals in 331 games for the royals.[8]

Personal life

Cumming retired from football in 1978 going on to open up a restaurant. Cumming is married to wife Christina and has two daughters, Susan and Amanda.[9]
