A Fine & Frugal grocery store is robbed by three masked assailants. Flashbacks show Beth Boland is a mother of four and her husband Dean owns a car dealership. Her sister Annie works at the Fine & Frugal and is a single parent. Their friend Ruby is the mother of a daughter who is very ill. The three friends meet at the diner Ruby works at and jokingly discuss robbing Annie's grocery store. Later, Beth finds out her husband is having an affair and they are in danger of losing their house. This prompts her to agree to the plan to rob the grocery. The three ladies rob the grocery store and make away with $500,000. They agree not to spend it, as that was much more money than they anticipated, but soon each lady spends a fair amount of their portion. Soon thereafter, Beth arrives home to three gang members in her kitchen. They want the money back that they were housing at the grocery store. The ladies attempt to recoup the money but still find themselves short. Annie's boss, Boomer, shows up at her apartment to tell her he knows she was one of the robbers because he saw her back tattoo. He wants sexual favors in exchange for his silence. After forcing himself on her, Beth hears Annie's pleas from the bathroom and confronts Boomer. When he threatens to tell the police, Beth hits him over the head with a bottle of liquor and he subsequently falls through a glass table & lays there motionless.

They pass the search and discover that the package they have is filled with wrapping paper and counterfeit money printed inside. They bring the money to Rio's warehouse and he tells them their debt is cleared. Later, Dean informs Beth that the cops have been notified about the car missing from his lot. Ruby can't bring herself to apologize and she gets fired. Sadie tells Annie that guys at school have been pulling her pants down, asking her what she is. She meets with Rio, who tells her that the he is shutting down his operation due to the pressure from the FBI. Each of the ladies gets back into their "old" lives to make money. One month later, the ladies are short of their next payment to Mary Pat. At Sarah's soccer game, Mary Pat spots Ruby and Stan and subtlety hints to Ruby that she will go to the police if she does not get paid. The ladies then decide that to get the money, they will need to commit another robbery. Ruby finds out that Sarah has been shoplifting at school. She later takes Ruby to the local police station so she can be "scared straight". After gleaning some information from Nancy about her spas, the ladies each target a different spa for the robbery. Each lady makes out with a large amount of injectables. Once they fail to move the product, Beth confides in Dean about the situation. He takes the product to his doctor friend and he's able to move the injectables. While visiting Stan at work, Ruby learns that the man from Rio's gang that stayed at the Boland's is the one helping the police. She relays this information to the other ladies.

Ruby decides to get stoned with Stan and inquire if the cops know anything about the trucks. With assurance that the police most likely don't know anything about the trucks, the ladies go through with the plan and each drive off in a truck. Beth is pulled over shortly after leaving the garage. After seeing Mary Pat at the grocery and seeing Annie pay for all her groceries, Boomer goes to Teddy to get more information on her. Later, he attends her church and the two spark up a conversation, that leads Boomer back to Mary Pat's house where he sets up a recording device in her living room. Beth learns she was pulled over due to the truck not having a license plate. She talks her way out of getting in trouble and goes to Rio who informs her it was a test to see if she would talk to the cops. Beth is extremely angry and Rio tells her that their partnership is over. The ladies become convinced that Rio will want them dead, so the ladies decide that it may be best to flip on Rio.
