Gonystylus calophyllus grows as a small tree. The twigs are dark brown. The specific epithet calophyllus is from the Greek meaning "beautiful leaves". Habitat is lowland mixed dipterocarp forest. G. calophyllus is endemic to Borneo where it is known only from Sarawak.[1]
