Gonocephalus is a genus of agamid lizards endemic to southeast Asia.[4]

Taxonomy

Species from Melanesia and Australia which were formerly included in Gonocephalus are now placed in the genus Hypsilurus.[4] Furthermore, genetic data suggest that Gonocephalus robinsonii is only distantly related to other Gonocephalus, rendering the genus non-monophyletic.[4][5]

Conservation status

The International Union for Conservation of Nature has assessed five Gonocephalus species; one of them (Gonocephalus grandis) is classified as of "Least Concern", whereas the other four are "Data Deficient".[6]

Species

As of 2013, Gonocephalus contains the following 17 species:[3]

Nota bene: A binomial authority in parentheses indicates that the species was originally described in a genus other than Gonocephalus.
