Godwin Diogo Franco (born 16 February 1985) is an Indian football player. He last played in a Football League in Mexico qualifying for the 1st Division of that League system.

Godwin Franco has won the 2015 Indian Super League. In the season prior to that which was the 1st edition of the Indian Super League he was a runner up. He is a winner of 14 trophies with various clubs in 13 seasons of professional football, including the Indian Super League, I-League and Indian Super Cup.

Club career

Early career

Godwin Diogo Franco comes from the Parish of Saint Diogo’s Catholic Church, Guirim Goa. He is a graduate of the Sesa Football Academy and prior to enrolling at Sesa, he has been with the Assagao Anjuna Football Academy. He was a part of the Vasco SC U-19 team in the then U-19 National Football League and played for Churchill Bros U-19 in the then U-19 NFL.[2]

Churchill Brothers

He started his professional career in 2003 with Churchill Brothers with whom he played for two seasons, winning the Goa Governors Cup with them. He played for them in the National Football League, the then top tier football league of India. He played for them in the Indian Federation Cup.

Sporting Clube de Goa

Godwin won the Goa Professional League and G.F.A. Charity Cup. He played in the National Football League the then top tier football league of India. He played in the Indian Federation Cup. During this time Godwin sustained a very major injury in a road accident in 2007 from which he made a comeback in 2009 with Sporting.

Pune

Godwin finished 3rd in the I-league, starting 23 times in the midfield. He played in the Indian Federation Cup.

Dempo

Godwin won 9 trophies including the I-League and the Indian Super Cup 1997–2011. He finished runner up in the 2012 Indian Federation Cup, in which he made an assist for a goal in the final. He played in the 2011 AFC Championns League qualifier as well. Godwin started in a match which created an all-time record for the highest goals scored by a team in a single match in any of the top tier Indian league football matches, with a 14-0 home win in the I-League and completed his part in that match with a 100% pass ratio.

Fortuna Dusseldorf

Godwin was selected by former German Bundesliga champions Fortuna Düsseldorf, Germany, for a trial in November 2013.

Kerala Blasters FC

Godwin finished 2nd place in the 1st Indian Super League.

Royal Wahingdoh FC

After the first five matches of the I League Godwin started every match playing an important role, including scoring two long range goals finishing 3rd in the I League.

2015 ISL

Godwin won the 2015 Indian Super League final in his home state Goa. Godwin also played in the 14th Sergio Minelli Memorial Trophy vs Italian club Gualdo Casacastalda in Italy.

C. D. Guadalupe

On 11 March 2018 Godwin made his debut for Mexican club Club Deportivo Guadalupe, in the Liga Mexicana de Football de San Lorenzo Tepaltitlán, a football league in Mexico, making a comeback from another very major injury from a road accident soon after the 2015 Indian Super League final. He was to sign on loan for Sporting Clube de Goa for the 2016 I-League but he met with the road accident on the day he did his medical tests for the club. Godwin totally testifies his comeback as a miracle of GOD JESUS. He played for C.D. Guadalupe in 9 matches, qualifying for the first division of that league system. He played in 9 matches scoring 2 goals from open play.

International career

Godwin played for the India football team in the 2006 Lusophony Games in Macau representing the Indian Olympic Association . Godwin played for an Indian Under-19 team (India T.F.A. Blue U-19) in 2003. Godwin was also a part of the India national football team camp for the 2010 AFC Challenge Cup. He however could not play the tournament because of late player registration. Godwin was selected as a probable for the India national football team for the 2018 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Godwin was a part of the Indian national football team system for the 2019 Asian Cup qualifiers. Godwin played for the Goa state team vs Zambia in an invitational match in Goa . Zambia following became The African Cup of Nations Champions.

National career

Godwin has played for the U-16, U-19 and U-21 Goa state football teams at those respective National Championships for his state Goa and captained Goa at the U-21 level. Godwin played for the Goa team for the National Championship tournament, he helped them finish as semi finalist of the National Championship tournament in Kolkata. Godwin played for the Goa state team vs Zambia in an invitational match in Goa. Zambia following became The African Cup of Nations Champions.

Godwin spoke from Germany during the 2012 UEFA European Championship. Godwin also spoke from Germany on the day of the 2014 FIFA World Cup final. He has also been an analyst during the 2010 and 2014 FIFA World Cup's. He has also been an analyst during the 2016 UEFA European Championship.
