Globelamp is a psych-folk project founded by California singer-songwriter Elizabeth le Fey, (born 5 April).

Her second album, The Orange Glow was released by Wichita Recordings on June 10, 2016.

In 2013, she was a touring member of the popular psych-rock band Foxygen.[1]

On October 12, 2018 she released her third album, Romantic Cancer.[2]

History

Globelamp began her musical career by studying classic piano at the age of four.[3] Taking inspiration from mythological legends and the works of novelist Francesa Lia Block, Globelamp began writing poetry about fairies and nature at the age of 15.[4]

Her earliest music influences include Syd Barrett [5] and Stevie Nicks, but as young teen, she was especially inspired by the works of Conor Oberst, Fiona Apple, and Tori Amos, which later inspired her to begin performing on her acoustic guitar at small coffee shops in Orange County, California.[3]

In early twenties, inspired by third-wave feminist rock groups like Sleater-Kinney and Bikini Kill, she relocated to Olympia, Washington, and began studying at Evergreen State College.[6] Shortly thereafter, she became an intern at K Records and formed the psych-punk band Meowtain. [7]

She then took off on her own to write, produce and record her more ethereal, witch-folk debut Star Dust, but prior to release, she toured as an instrumentalist and singer in the psych-rock band Foxygen. In 2013, she left Foxygen after a Tumblr post she penned went viral and revealed her tumultuous experience as a touring member of the band. [8]

In 2015 she opened for Laura Jane Grace of Against Me! in New York at the City Winery[9] and in Los Angeles at the Hollywood Forever Cemetery. [10]

On the June 10th 2016 she released her second album, a brooding freak-folk album titled The Orange Glow on Wichita Recordings [11]. The album was well received by critics.[12]

On October 12th 2018 she released her third album, Romantic Cancer, on Nefarious Industries. The album features James Felice of The Felice Brothers on accordion. [13]

Globelamp says her dream venue would be the Burg-Eltz castle in Germany.[14]

Influences

Globelamp has stated many times that Conor Oberst inspired[15] her to start writing songs[16]. She has also talked about her love of Taylor Swift and how she thinks she is a feminist figure.[17]

Globelamp's aesthetic and visual art is inspired by childhood cartoons like Sailor Moon, Rainbow Brite, and My Little Pony. [18]

Feminism

The singer-songwriter experienced her first epiphany in Los Angeles at 15 courtesy of a babysitter who took her and a friend to see Le Tigre at the El Rey. That night, Le Fey  learned what powerful feminist rock looked like, and managed to get a hug from Kathleen Hanna. The next day, she stopped shaving her legs.[19]

Her struggles as an at-times-silenced woman who spoke out about abuse she dealt with while a member of the band Foxygen prefaced the #MeToo wave, but haven’t really given a fair shake, despite her willingness to talk about them. She maintains she was framed in court by Foxygen singer Sam France’s family over charges she tried to break into a house and she brings up that she had no lawyer. [20]
