Glam (Hangul: 글램) was a South Korean girl group that debuted in 2012 under the management of Big Hit Entertainment and Source Music.[1] The group consisted of five members: Zinni, Trinity, Jiyeon, Dahee, and Miso.[2] Glam disbanded in 2015 after a court found Dahee guilty of blackmailing actor Lee Byung-hun.[3]

History

Pre-debut

Before officially debuting, GLAM collaborated with label-mates 2AM and Lee Hyun. They featured on 2AM's Alone from their album Saint o'Clock, and Lee Hyun's single You Are Best of My Life. Prior to GLAM's debut, member Dahee voiced South Korea's first official Vocaloid, SeeU under Seoul Broadcasting System in both Korean and Japanese. GLAM's first publicized performance as a group was at Japan during the Nico Nico Chokaigi festival. On May 25, Big Hit Entertainment announced that the group would make their debut on July 16 in collaboration with Source Music. A representative revealed, "GLAM is comprised of five members talented in singing, and dancing . The name means ‘Girls Be Ambitious’, and we hope that they’ll follow their name to produce ambitious, bright music." As a means to introduce the group to the public, GLAM had featured in their first reality show 'Real Music Drama: GLAM' which aired on SBS MTV from June 6 up until the group's official debut[4]

2012: Debut with Party (XXO), Five Fingers soundtrack and member changes

On July 16, GLAM released their first single Party (XXO). The music video for the song was uploaded onto their official YouTube channel on July 19, 2012.[5] Their second single was released on October 26, for the soundtrack of SBS' drama, Five Fingers.[6] On December 24, Big Hit Entertainment released a public statement announcing that Trinity would be leaving GLAM due to personal reasons and announced she had no desire to be a celebrity,[7] which caused rumours that it was due to her alleged past as a sasaeng fan of Super Junior member Leeteuk.[8] Allegations included that she had posed as a CEO's daughter and the daughter of a producer in order to try to meet Leeteuk, and was known as "Cussing Granny" due to her aggressiveness and tendency towards swearing.[9][10][11][12]

2013–2015: I Like That, In Front of the Mirror, Dahee blackmail scandal and disbandment

On January 1, 2013, GLAM released their second single, I Like That. GLAM also performed on various music programs to promote their new single.[13] On March 15, GLAM made their second comeback of the year with In Front of the Mirror. GLAM started their promotions via Music Bank and various other music programs as well.[14]

On September 2, 2014, the actor Lee Byung-hun made a report at Gangnam Police Station claiming that two women were blackmailing him by using a compromising video as leverage. Dahee and model Lee Ji-yeon were identified and they have since admitted to blackmailing the actor.[15] The final trial was held at the Seoul District Court on January 15, 2015, and Dahee was sentenced to one year in prison[16] until Lee Byung-hun released her before leaving for the U.S. on March 20.[17] On January 14, the company confirmed the contracts of the members ended at the end of 2014 and the members decided to go their separate ways. Former member Jiyeon, currently known as Lucy, made her solo debut on March 22, 2017 with her single "B-Day".[18]
