Griselda "Gizzi" Maxwell Erskine (born 20 August 1979)[1] is an English cook and TV personality.

Early years

Erskine was born in Wandsworth, London to model and actress[2] Maria Josephine (daughter of Dr Josef Klupt, of Richmond, Surrey,[3] born 1948 in Hammersmith[4]), the second wife of photographer[5] Iain Maxwell Erskine, 2nd Baron Erskine of Rerrick (1926, Wandsworth, London[6]-1995).[7][8][9] The second of three daughters (all Wandsworth born[10]), Erskine grew up in Belgravia, Central London until the age of 8 when her parents divorced[11] and she moved with her mother and siblings to north-west London.[9] Erskine has stated that her upbringing was 'frugal' and her family 'very poor'. She was educated at state schools.[12]

Career

She trained at Leiths School of Food and Wine in London.[13][14]

Erskine presented two seasons of Channel 4's cookery show Cook Yourself Thin[15] and presented Channel 4's daytime programme Cookery School in 2011.[16] She has also presented cookery features for ITV1's This Morning, contributed to Healthy Food Guide magazine and appeared on Sky1's Taste. She now co-presents channel 4's cookery programme Drop Down Menu with Matt Tebbutt. She has also appeared on other TV shows, including Cooks To Market and Iron Chef on Channel 4. As a food writer, she has published Kitchen Magic and her latest book, the hugely successful Skinny Weeks and Weekend Feasts, has been a best-seller since it was published in April this year.

Her image and styling play a prominent role in her presenting. She was formerly a punk but at present has adopted stylised 1960s look and persona.[9]

On 14 July 2013, she joined The Sunday Times as the Sunday Times Cook in the newspaper's weekly magazine.[17]
