Ghazni University was established in 2008 in Ghazni, a city in central Afghanistan. Ahmad Shah Rafiqi was the first rector of the university. the university started with two faculties (agriculture and Education faculty) where for the first time there were around 110 students including 14 female and 97 male students. at the time it was supported by the Polish PRT (Provincial Reconstruction Team) and after some time it was fully supported by the government. as time went, the university expanded itself with it, more students came and there was need for more faculties. at the time Ahmad Shah Rafiqi was changed by Abdul Qadeer Khamosh, as the new rector of the university after two years he was also replaced by Mohammad Bayer Darmal who is the current rector (Chancellor) of the university. the government made new buildings for the university in the East of the city and they started their lessons with their new buildings. two more faculties were added, Economics and Sharia respectively. after a time another faculty was added named as Literature & Languages Faculty. and currently there are total of 5 faculties in the university and the numbers of the students which are studying in these faculties are around 4000 students, including 540 females.
