Gerry Stimson

Gerry Stimson is a British public health social scientist, emeritus professor at Imperial College London, and a visiting professor at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine.[1][2] He is the director of the Centre for Research on Drugs and Health Behaviour.[3] With Tim Rhodes, he is also the co-editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Drug Policy.[4]

He is the co-founder, with Paddy Costall, of the Global Forum on Nicotine, and is an advocate of vaping and e-cigarettes as agents of tobacco harm reduction.[2] Stimson argues that although nicotine is addictive, it is "almost harmless to health", and that it is the tobacco smoke that is harmful, and that e-cigarettes have "negligible risk to health".[5]

Stimson is a critic of the UK Government's drug policy.[3]
