Georgina García Pérez (Spanish pronunciation: [ɟʝoɾˈʝina ɣaɾˈθi.a ˈpeɾeθ];[lower-alpha 1][1] born 13 May 1992 in Barcelona) is a Spanish tennis player.
She has won 1 doubles title, in 2 finals played, on the WTA Tour, and 10 singles and 12 doubles titles on the ITF tour. On 1 October 2018, she reached her best singles ranking of world number 128. On 20 August 2018, she peaked at world number 90 in the doubles rankings.
She hit the fastest serve on record at 220 km/h (136.7 mph) at the 2018 Hungarian Ladies Open in Budapest.
She represented Spain for the first time in the Fed Cup in 2018, where she has a 1-1 record, both played in doubles.
Professional career
2014 - 2016
After three years without stepping on a tennis court for personal reasons, Georgina returns to the circuit with renewed enthusiasm.
Only a few months after her re-debut, she achieved her first professional titles. During 2015, she achieved 2 ITF titles of $10,000, in Monzón and in Portugal.
Georgina García, adds another 3 ITF individual titles, plus 4 more titles in the doubles circuit, which leads her to debut in the WTA tour at the 2016 Copa Colsanitas, partnering Laura Pous Tió in doubles,[2] but lost her first round match against Nicole Melichar and Rebecca Peterson.[2]
2017
In 2017 he has premiered in Grand Slam disputing the qualification draw of Wimbledon, falling in 3 sets against the American Sachia Vickery. A wrist injury has prevented her from being active during the summer of 2017. At the end of 2017, Georgina returns to the courts with the intention of adding the points needed to play the preview of the Australian Open and she is only 1 week away. to be able to enter when winning the Pune tournament.
2018
In 2018 Georgina starts the season in the $60,000 ITF tournament of Adrezieux, in France, where she won the most important title of her career, defeating in the final the former top100, the Dutch, Arantxa Rus by a score of 6 -2 6-0. The week after that title, Georgina was summoned by the new captain Anabel Medina, for the first time in her career, to play a tie of the Tennis Federation Cup. It would be against Italy on February 10 and 11, where she played the doubles match, winning the Italian pair with María José Martínez.
After overcoming the previous phase in the WTA in Budapest, going up two matches against Naomi Broady and the vetaranissimo ex top 10 Patty Schnider, Georgina has played her first final table of a WTA level tournament where she has fallen in 2 sets (2-6 yrs. 4-6) against the Serbian Aleksandra Krunic. It should also be noted that in the 2nd match of qualifying, Georgina took 220 km / h, which is the fastest service in the history of women's tennis and has yet to be verified by the WTA. In the same tournament, in the modality of doubles, Georgina manages to conquer her first WTA title with her partner, the local tennis player, Fanny Stollár. They won in a tough game, with a comeback included, in the supertiebreak at number 1 of the draw, the pair formed by the Swedish Johanna Larsson and the Belgian Kirsten Flipkens. In May, a couple of months after her first WTA title in doubles, she returns to play another final with the same couple, the Hungarian Fanny Stollár falling in the final of the Rabat tournament against the Russian Anna Blinkova and the Romanian, specialist of doubles, Raluca Olaru.
After the good start of the season, Georgina receives a Wild Card (WC) to play for the first time in the main draw of the Mutua Madrid Open. She disputed her first-round match against Croatian player Donna Vekic with which she finally lost 6-2 6-4.
In June, she managed to overcome the previous phase of 2018 French Open and achieved her first victory in a Grand Slam after defeating the Slovenian Dalila Jakupović. This victory led him to contest the second round against the favorite number 2 and winner this year of the Australian Open, the Danish Caroline Wozniacki.
In July, Georgina could not play the singles preview at Wimbledon for very few, but she did it in the doubles along with her Hungarian partner Fanny Stollár. With it they achieve the first victory in a final table of doubles of a tournament of Great Slam defeating the Luxembourger Mandy Minella and the Latvian Anastasija Sevastova. They would lose in the second round before which in the end they would be the finalists of Wimbledon, the American Nicole Melichar and the Czech Kveta Peschke.
In August, he makes his first appearance at the US Open. Access to the qualifying stage by reaching the 3rd and final round where she could not overcome the Czech Marie Bouzkova.
