George Poede is a Romanian political philosopher and professor that developed his academic career at the faculty of philosophy and socio-political sciences of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iași.[1] In 2016 he was nominated by the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of France for the Ordre des Palmes Académiques.[2]

Academic background

Between 1979 and 1990 he was a university assistant in the chair of scientific socialism of the faculty of history and philosophy of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University in Iași.[3][4] In 1990-91 he became a lector in the department of sociology and politics. In 1996 he earned a doctorate with a thesis on Domination and Power in Max Weber's Political Thought under the supervision of Petre Dumitrescu.[5] He became associate professor in 2002 and full professor in 2006.[6] In 2007 he obtained his habilitation to supervise doctoral research, and has supervised numerous doctorates since that time.[7] In 2008 he ran for rector of Alexandru Ioan Cuza University, losing to Vasile Isan.[8] He reached the mandatory retirement age of 65 in January 2017, and the university agreed to keep his tenure until the end of the 2016-2017 academic year.[9] After that date, he kept a doctoral course entitled Paradigms of knowledge and communication,[10] and his areas of research interest include important topics in political philosophy, such as the theory of knowledge, theories of power, political theory and its problems, and objectivity and subjectivity in political science.[11]

Honours and distinctions

Poede was Vice President of the Romanian Association for International Relations and European Studies (ARRISE) under the presidency of Iordan Bărbulescu.[12] He also worked as a consulting expert in a number of projects funded by EU and UN institutions, national governments, and private organisations.[13] In 2016 he was nominated by the Ministry of National Education of the Republic of France for the Ordre des Palmes Académiques.[14]
