Archbishop George Antonysamy[1] is the serving Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Madras and Mylapore.[2][3][4][5]
Early life & Education
He was born on 15 February 1952 in Trichy, Tamilnadu. He completed his primary education in Trichy and joined St. Augustine's Minor Seminary. He completed his Bachelor of Philosophy and Master of Theology degree from Pontifical Urban University, Rome.
Priesthood
He was ordained a Catholic Priest on 19 November 1980. He served as an assistant parish priest at the Holy Redeemer's Minor Basilica, Trichy for one year.[6]
Vatican Diplomat
He was appointed as the Charge d’Affaires of the Vatican Embassy in Jordan by Pope John Paul II in 2002. He was appointed as the Apostolic Nuncio to Gambia, Liberia,[7] Guinea and Sierra Leone.[8] He resigned from his services as Apostolic Nuncio to Guinea on 8 Sep 2008.[9]
Episcopate
He was Ordained a Bishop on 21 Sep 2005. He was appointed Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Madras and Mylapore on 21 Nov 2012 by Pope Benedict XVI.[10][11][12][13] He was appointed Titular Archbishop of Sulci on 4 Aug 2005.
