Georg Malmstén (27 June 1902, in Helsinki – 25 May 1981, in Helsinki) was a Finnish singer, musician, composer, orchestra conductor and actor. He was one of the most prolific entertainers in Finland of his time, producing over 800 records in numerous genres. In late 1930s, owning a record company, he made about half of his releases under the pseudonym Matti Reima.[1] He was the oldest of three children of a Swedish-speaking family, with Russian ancestry through his mother, Eugenie Petroff, and brother of singer and bandleaderEugen Malmstén.[2]

Issues with Disney

George Malmstén made first of his "Mikki-Hiiri" songs for his son. Later he would come to make more of them. In 1950´s Disney sued him over the main character Mikki-Hiiri having very similar name to the Finnish translation of Mickey Mouse; "Mikki Hiiri". Disney however abonded the case after a explanation was given by Malmstén. According to him shared nothing common but a name, and even that was written differently. Also in the song "Mikki Hiiri ja susihukka" there is a army of Mickey Mouses, suggesting that it was a just name of a race. However contradicting Malmstén's explanation is a rare song from the year 1935 where Mickey Mouse goes looking for diamonds, that features other Mickey Mouse -characters.[3]
