Gawirkayeti

Gawirkayeti (Kurdish: Gewirkayetî/Gewurkayetî, گه‌ورکایه‌تی, literally: "abode of Gawirks"), is the southernmost part of Mukriyan region of the Iranian Kurdistan, and the West Azarbaijan Province of Iran. The region is inhabited by Gawirk Kurds, and encompasses the area to the west of Bokan, east of Sardasht, south-west of Mahabad and north-west of Saqqez. It corresponds with the ancient land of Gamirk/Gimirri, of the land of Mannea, inhabited by Kimmerians. The name Gawirk seems to be a variation of Gamir-k, since Iranian /-m/ is usually developed into /-w/ in modern Kurdish.
