Fulham F.C. league record by opponent

Craven Cottage has been Fulham's home stadium for most of their history and has staged almost half of Fulham's league matches.

Fulham Football Club is an English professional football team based in Fulham in the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham. The club was formed in West Kensington in 1879 as Fulham St Andrew's Church Sunday School F.C., shortened to Fulham F.C. in 1888.[1]

They initially played at Fulham Fields before a move to Craven Cottage in 1896; the club played their first professional match in December 1898 and made their FA Cup debut in the 1902–1903 season.

The club competed in the Southern Football League between 1898 and 1907, after which they were accepted into the Football League Second Division. Their first game in the League was at home against Hull City on 3 September 1907[1] Having spent much of their history outside the top division, they had won promotions to the old Division One in 1949 and again in 1959. The team gained promotion to the Premier League in 2001.[2][3] They then spent thirteen seasons in the top flight before being relegated in 2014 but reached the final of the UEFA Europa League in 2010.[2]

Fulham's first team has competed in all four of the nationally contested leagues, and its record against each club faced in these competitions is listed below (up to and including 6 May 2018). The team that Fulham has met the most in league competition is Blackpool, whom they first played in the 1907–08 Football League Second Division and have since contested 102 league matches. For just three seasons Fulham played in the (old) top Division One from 1949-1952 before being relegated, but regained Division One status during a golden period from 1959-1968 fielding many top flight international players, including club legend Johnny Haynes (England and Fulham captain), Alan Mullery, George Cohen (World Cup '66 winner), Bobby Robson and Jimmy Hill. In 1975 they reached the F.A. Cup Final after playing a record eleven cup-tie games along the way before being defeated by West Ham United 2-0. Among the players with Fulham on the day were Bobby Moore and Alan Mullery. George Best joined the first team in 1976 and stayed until 1977, appearing 47 times for the club. The team's most prolific goalscorer ever was Gordon Davies with 178 League and Cup goals between 1978 and 1991. Despite these glory years, Fulham slipped down to Division Three and eventually to Division Four in 1994. The revival would come when Mohammed Al-Fayed took the club over in the late 1990s, when quite rapidly they returned to the top flight. After 13 years in the Premiership League, they were relegated in 2014 back to the Championship, but after just four years and following a very successful season in that League, Fulham were promoted back to the Premiership at the end of May 2018.

Fulham's largest home gate was 49,335 against Millwall in 1938, but 100,000 attended the Wembley Cup Final in 1975. Their second largest gate was in the Championship play-offs this time at the 'new' Wembley in May 2018, when a crowd of 85,243 attended the Final.

Key

  • The records include the results of matches played in The Football League (1907-2018). Wartime matches are regarded as unofficial and are excluded, as are matches from the abandoned 1939–40 season. F.A.Cup games, Championship Play-Off matches and Test Matches are not included, and matches in the Southern Football League (1899 to 1907) are not included because records are hard to locate.[3]
  • For the sake of simplicity, present-day names are used throughout: for example, results against Ardwick, Small Heath and Woolwich Arsenal are integrated into the records against Manchester City, Birmingham City and Arsenal, respectively.
  • P = matches played; W = matches won; D = matches drawn; L = matches lost; F = Goals scored; A = Goals conceded; Win% = percentage of total points won.

Information up to date at the close of the 2017-2018 season.
