Summary
Löwith gives a wide-ranging account of 19th century German philosophy that considers Karl Marx and Søren Kierkegaard, among others, in the Hegelian tradition. He refers to Georg Wilhelm Friedrich Hegel and Friedrich Nietzsche as "the two end points between which the historical course of the German spirit in the nineteenth century moves."[1][2]
