Fred Rast was born in Switzerland[1] and graduated from San Jose State University in 1979.[2] Fred has since been teaching Saxophone and Clarinet, and making Mouthpiece (woodwind)s.[3] Fred teaches at Music Village in San Jose, CA since 1979.[4] Fred has performed Clarinet at the Saratoga Symphony, as lead alto sax in the Bob Bouchard Big Band and a several bands including The Alpiners and Jose Bowen's Klezmer band.

Fred has recorded with the Paul Price's Society Orchestra, Chico Bavarian Band and Marijan Kramar's Oberkrainer Band.
