Frashër is a village and a former municipality in the Gjirokastër County, southern Albania. At the 2015 local government reform it became a subdivision of the municipality Përmet.[1] The population at the 2011 census was 387.[2] The municipal unit consists of the villages Frashër, Zavalan, Ogren-Kostrec, Gostivisht, Miçan, Vërçisht, Kreshovë and Soropull.[3]

The name means "ash tree" in Albanian.

History

In June 1880 the Second Assembly of Frashër was organised by the League of Prizren.[4]

Demographics

Frashër village, which is the seat of the municipality, has a minority Aromanian population, who call the village "Farshari".[5] Their language is called fãrsherot.[6]
