Frank Hamilton (singer)

Frank Hamilton is an English singer, songwriter and producer currently living in London. He is best known for his #OneSongaWeek project in which he wrote, recorded and released a song a week for the whole of 2012.

Early life and career beginnings

Frank Hamilton took an early interest in music, citing Ritchie Valens and Buddy Holly as his first loves. He was also keen on sports, especially table tennis, and at one point was ranked 8th in England at under 12 level. After trying and failing at both Trumpet and Drums he bought an electric guitar on his 16th birthday and started writing songs.

You, Your Cat & Me – EP

The critically acclaimed You Your Cat & Me EP cost just £800 to make and market and has sold over 10,000 copies to date. It prompted Music Week to label Hamilton 'the Mike Skinner of folk' and was also used as part of the 2010 general election campaign .

Christmas in London – Single

Hamilton's first Christmas single was played back to back on Chris Evans' drive time show , the first time this had happened on UK national radio since 1978. The demo originally featured Scottish singer songwriter Sandi Thom but the final recording featured Helen Ruocco (who sang on the You, Your Cat & Me EP).

Songs From The Bedroom – EP

A collection of songs recorded in Frank's bedroom studio. Songs From The Bedroom was a limited pressing and was never made available online.

Words & Nothing More – EP

The Words and Nothing More EP was recorded at home in the space of just 8 days and released 4 days later with a marketing budget of £0. It charted at No. 3 in iTunes Singer/Songwriter album chart and has sold over 3,000 copies to date.

Best of #OneSongAWeek – Album

An album featuring 21 of the best songs from #OneSongaWeek, including collaborations with Ed Sheeran, Newton Faulkner, Ryan Keen and Lauren Aquilina (amongst others). It was released on 10 December 2012 and charted at No. 1 in the Singer/Songwriter album charts, No. 21 in the Overall album charts and No. 2 in Music Week's Indie Breakers chart.

In a recent BBC radio 5live interview Hamilton confessed that the project (and the album) happened by accident, "which is probably for the best".

Other #OneSongaWeek collaborations included ex Manchester United and England footballer Dion Dublin, YouTube sensation Mark Grist and 'Mr. X' from YouTube.

#LondonEyeEP

On 24 March 2013 Hamilton recorded four of his favourite songs from #OneSongaWeek on board the London Eye (in the 28 minutes it takes to go round once). The EP was released a week before the 52-track album 'All of #OneSongaWeek' (which comes with a chord & lyric book).
