Francisco Milans del Bosch (1769-1834) was a Spanish general.

Biography

Francisco Milans del Bosch enters the Spanish army as a cadet. In February 1793 he becomes an alférez and is sent to participate to the War of the Pyrenees, against the French, with general Antonio Ricardos. After becoming a lieutenant alférez in May of that same year, he is wounded in the battle of the Black Mountain in 1794 and then becomes a lieutenant in 1796.

Milans del Bosch participates to the Peninsular War (1807-1814), commanding the Miquelets in Catalonia. After independence and the comeback of absolute monarchy with Ferdinand VII, Milans del Bosch is on the side of the liberals. In 1817, he organises a pronunciamento with general Luis de Lacy, which fails. Lacy is arrested and sentenced to death, while Milans del Bosch is forced to flee. He will try several times again, from his refuge in Pyrénées-Orientales. He is arrested by the French on 3 June 1829 in Laroque, near the Spanish border. He finally participates in another rebellion in Empordà in 1830 and fails once again.[1]

He is the father of Lorenzo Milans del Bosch, also a Spanish general.
