Frances X. Frei is an American academic. She is the UPS Foundation Professor of Service Management and the Senior Associate Dean for Executive Education at the Harvard Business School, and she was the senior vice-president for leadership and strategy at Uber.

Early life

Frances X. Frei graduated from the University of Pennsylvania, where she earned a bachelor's degree in mathematics.[1] She subsequently earned a master's degree in industrial engineering from Pennsylvania State University, and a PhD in Operations and Information Management from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania.[1]

Career

Frei is the UPS Foundation Professor of Service Management and the Senior Associate Dean for Executive Education at the Harvard Business School.[1] In 2012-2013,[2] Frei and other deans helped increase the experience of female students, by teaching them "how to raise their hands."[3] As of September 2017, she is on leave.[1]

Frei joined Uber in June 2017,[4] where she was appointed as senior vice-president for leadership and strategy of leadership.[3] She helped improve the company culture by encouraging teamwork.[3] Frei stepped down as senior vice-president in February 2018 to develop an executive education program focused on women and underrepresented minorities, although she has stayed on in an advisory role.[5]

Frei gave a talk at the TED conference in 2018 on the topic of building trust.[6]

Frei was hired as a senior adviser to Riot Games in September 2018 to help with implementation of their "Culture and Diversity & Inclusion Initiative", following a published report outlining many former and current employees there asserting of sexual discrimination within the workplace.[7]

Personal life

Frei is married to Anne Morriss.[2] She has two sons.[2]
