Foro Penal (English: Penal Forum) is a prominent Venezuelan human rights organization that provides legal assistance pro bono, or for free to the public, to those with limited economic resources and are presumed to be detained arbitrarily, tortured, assaulted or murdered during protests.[1]

History

Lawyers Alfredo Romero, Gonzalo Himiob, Alonso Medina and Tamara Sujú initially provided free legal assistance to those affected by the 2002 Venezuelan coup d'état attempt, working with Víctimas Venezolanas de Violaciones a los Derechos Humanos (VIVE).[1] Years later, they formally founded Foro Penal on 22 June 2005 in Caracas, Venezuela.[1]
