Founded in 2007 as Flashpoint, The Academy of Media Arts and Sciences, the college entered a 50/50 partnership with Tribeca Enterprises, the company established by Robert De Niro, Jane Rosenthal and Craig Hatkoff best known for producing the Tribeca Film Festival, in April 2010. At the time of the partnership, Flashpoint was renamed Tribeca Flashpoint Media Arts Academy. Following the merger, the college became part of a private, not-for-profit institution which is regionally accredited by the Western Association of Schools and Colleges Senior College and University Commission.[2]
