The Flag of Northern Syria (Kurdish: Ala Bakûrê Sûriyê; Arabic: علم شمال سوريا; Classical Syriac: ܐܬܐ ܕܓܪܒܝܐ ܕܣܘܪܝܐ) refers to the current widely used flags of the autonomous region of the Democratic Federation of Northern Syria (DFNS). One of the most commonly used is the tricolor flag that was originally adopted from Movement for a Democratic Society (TEV-DEM), which is the political coalition governing the DFNS.[2] The green, yellow and red colors are traditionally associated with Kurdish people, for example in the modern Flag of Kurdistan.[3][4][5] A flag depicting the emblem of the DFNS on a yellow field is also used, most notably at the office representing the region in Berlin and in The Hague.[6][7] A horizontal tricolor with blue, yellow, and red is also used by the Syriac Union Party and the Syriac Military Council in areas with a significant Syriac-Assyrian presence in Northern Syria.[1] Colors similar to the ones used on this flag can be found on the Assyrian and Chaldean flags.
