Filipos Woldeyohannes

Major General Philipos Woldeyohannes is the chief of Staff of Eritrean Defence Forces since March 2014.[1] He was appointed after the late Chief of Staff of the Eritrean Defense Forces, Major General Gerezgheri “Wuchu” died in early March 2014.

In the past, Major General Filipos Woldeyohannes has served as the commander of Eritrea's Operation Zone 2.[2] Eritrea has Five Operation Zones, each headed by a high-ranking military official. These zones overlap the 6 administrative regions. The power of the Operation Zone commanders supersedes that of the administrators who head the 6 regions.
