Fernanda "nanda" Giroleti Weiden is a system administrator and a former council member of Free Software Foundation Latin America (FSFLA), and she was a participant in Debian Women. She is an organizer of the Fórum Internacional Software Livre (FISL) and one of the founders of Projeto Software Livre Mulheres (Women in Free Software Project) in Brazil. She was elected the vice president of Free Software Foundation Europe (FSFE) in June 2009.

Weiden, of German and Italian ancestry, was raised in Porto Alegre, Brasil. She was a former employee for Google in Zurich, Switzerland. She joined Facebook in June, 2011, and has relocated to San Francisco;[1] she worked as production engineering director.[2] Being an emigrant, she has advocated for this group to participate in the emigration politics of her homeland.[3][4]

She is an example of cyberfeminism, along with developers such as Alice Wu and Yuwei Lin.[5] In June 2003, Fernanda Weiden and Loimar Vianna founded Projeto Software Livre Mulheres.[6][7]

Weiden was a sponsored Debian contributor;[8][9] she was a member of Debian Women and participated until 2011.[10][11] In 2004, she started a thread complaining about the prospective package hot-babe, which featured drawings of a girl undressing;[12][13] the package was rejected in 2005.[14]

On 16 September 2006, she participated in two panels at Wizards of OS 4 in Berlin; Weiden was one of the speakers in The Future of Free Software, together with Atul Chitnis and Federico Heinz.[15][16] The previous day, Larry Sanger announced Citizendium;[17] later that day, English Wikipedia editor Tobias Conradi started an article about Fernanda G. Weiden.[18][19] She was interviewed about the open source situation in Latin America.[20]

In FISL 6, she caused a good impression to David A. Wheeler,[21] and was interviewed because of her following lecture in LinuxTag.[22] In FISL 12, Weiden managed a course for women about system administration.[23] In FISL 15, she talked about failures in large-scale systems.[24]

Weiden was a founding member of FSFLA,[25] which was announced in FISL 6.[26] She became an administration council member in the founding assembly of FSFLA.[27] She participated in the official launch of the Science, Education and Learning in Freedom project.[28]

She was the vice president of FSFE between 2009–2011. She organized the campaign Document Freedom Day for a couple of years, and was involved in fund-raising activities and to inform people about digital rights management.[29]
