The Federal University Lafia is a recently established university situated in Lafia,[1] the capital of Nasarawa State in 2010 by the Goodluck Jonathan administration [2] as one of the nine new federal universities established in the six geo-political zones of Nigeria.[3]

The University commenced academic activities by September 2012 with new students that made up the first set of students to be trained by the University Vice Chancellor, Prof. Ekanem Ikpi Braide.[4] Federal University, Lafia currently has a second Vice Chancellor Prof. Muhammad Sunusi Liman and a Deputy Vice Chancellor by name Prof. Ogbe who were appointed by the present President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, retired Major General Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. The appointment was done on the 13th of February 2016, after the expiration of the tenure of Prof. Ekanem Ikpi Braide.

The University was formally planned to be sited along Jos road in Lafia metropolis and it was meant to begin operation using the facilities of College of Agriculture in Lafia,[5] but the university has now been taken to Obi road outside lafia metropolis. The online website for the university is www.fulafia.edu.ng and has its intranet for its own use.
