Fasa University^[2] is a public research university founded in 2006. its campus is located in Fasa approximately 150 km from Shiraz (the Fars province capital). The institution is a third generation promising young one, with over 1200 undergraduate and graduate students and over 130 faculty and staff.^[3]

The campus lies in the west side of the city accommodating the faculty buildings, the library, the administration and the boys’ dormitory. Professors and girls housing is located in Qodosi street for which university has provided transportation. The campus is the border line of the city and the mountains therefore it offers the most fascinating sunset view behind its blue mountains. It operates various auxiliary research facilities, such as the research greenhouse and thirty one laboratories. Among university faculty are recipients of the Kharazmi prize, Iran inventions grand Prize, as well as many patents. Also students are among the top 10 ranks in MS exams, as well the first rank in AI challange Sharif competition.

Fasa University student athletes compete in deferent areas namely swimming for which ranked third (2016), futsal ranked first in (2018), and second (2017), in taekwondo second (2015), and karate first (2018).^[4][5]

History

Campus

The university's property totals 23,750 km2 , comprising the 10500 m2 for the Main Campus in west Fasa and the faculty members’ and the girls’ housing are 3 km to the east from the main campus. The main campus has 9 buildings totaling over 10500 m2. The university continues to expand its facilities on campus. In 2017, the university opened the Basic science building, housing 22 faculty members’ rooms and 8 laboratories.^[6]

Academics

Fasa University offers more than 11 undergraduate and 3 graduate degrees. In the 2016-2017 academic year, the university awarded a total of 350 degrees: 15% bachelor's degrees, 25.0% master's degrees, Fasa University is a young and promising unit that is constantly trying to promote its ranking. In national , Fasa University was ranked tied for 54th in 2015 among all universities, and tied for 63rd place in 2016, Internationally, Fasa University is stepping forward to enter valid rankings by the perseverance of its prospective faculty members and students. Fasa University has valid google scholar and Orcid profiles which keeps the track of its faculty research posted and easily accessed.

Research

Research at Fasa University is largely focused in the engineering and physical sciences,[92] and the university is a leading research institution in fields such as computer science.[93] Enviromental engineering is a major research thrust, with 30 projects on waste water treatment among others. The university manages nearly 1080 m2 square meters of field laboratories, including HPLC, computing centre, Solid state, optic, modern physics, fluid mechanics. Water engineering labs include water, hydraulics. The research greenhouse of 300 m2 started its work in 2017. A mechanics workshop with 300 m2 is currently under construction with 98% development in 5 Months which will be house to research.

Endowment

University of Fasa is a public university and its funding is provided by the government of Iran. For the top ranks of the national university entrance exam, education is free in all public universities. Those who rank below the normal capacity of the universities will be required to pay part or all of the tuition.

Residential life

The campus has 5 residence halls, the newest of which opened in 2016. On-campus housing can hold more than 400 male students which is the largest residence hall. The faculty members’ and female housing is 3 km from the main campus offering a total of400 beds in three residence halls to girls and one hall to faculty members. The division of housing and food has performed amendments in facilities and food services by renovating the old parts, introducing environmental structures and also offering a new menu with higher quality.

Student organizations

The university recognizes 12 student organizations. In addition, there are 7 student journals publishing monthly or seasonally. Different student organizations in this respect conduct many ceremonial events namely graduation events.

In the Fall of 2017, the school has employed 56 full-time faculty members, with a student-to-faculty ratio of 19 to 1. Winners of the Khharazmi Prize, Iran inventions grand Prize, as well as many patents, and other various awards.

Alumni

Fasa university‘s official alumni organization is nascent. Started in January 2018, the first faculty to initiate the action was computer engineering, which established a promising tradition of social media groups along with the original idea of starting a support group. The backbone of this idea is the need on the part of the current students to learn about the future of their major both in higher education and in the job market. Therefore they would offer valid orientation for young learners. Other majors’ alumni organizations are off to a very good start considering the fact that it nurtures the sense of belonging and stemming from the same root. May it be that in a near future the calls to our fresh resources resonates all over the world and this becomes the first step of a promising run of relations among the alumni and the students.
