Eyewitness is an American drama television series, based on the Norwegian series Øyevitne. The series centers around the relationship between two teenage boys, Philip Shea (Tyler Young) and Lukas Waldenbeck (James Paxton), after they witness a triple homicide. The series was given a straight-to-series order with 10 episodes in January 2016.[1] Eyewitness premiered on USA Network on October 16, 2016.[2] The series won for Outstanding TV Movie or Limited Series at the 28th GLAAD Media Awards.[3] On March 1, 2017, USA Network canceled the show after one season.[4]

Philip and Lukas, two teenage boys, are making out in an isolated cabin when they are interrupted by the unexpected arrival of a group of men. The boys hide when the men enter the cabin and witness one of the men shoot the others before he turns to kill them. They manage to overpower him and escape into the night, hiding all evidence of the encounter and vowing not to tell anyone what happened. Sheriff Helen Torrance goes to investigate the killings and finds the FBI is already involved. Kamilah Davis, an FBI agent, tells Helen the three bodies are a routine gang killing linked to a drug trafficking crime family. But despite being warned to stay away, an invigorated Helen suspects there is something more going on and she and her deputy Tony begin investigating, starting with the car parked outside.

Phillip spots the killer on the bus and realises that he’s still alive. Helen investigates the murder at the lake house, though she comes into conflict with Kamilah, who is still trying to cover up the FBI’s involvement in the murders. Meanwhile, the killer stalks one of Philip’s friends at school, believing that he is the one who witnessed the shootings at the cabin. Phillip and Lukas continue to disagree about what they should do about having witnessed the shooting at the cabin, especially after Tommy is found murdered, and the murderer is revealed to be someone very close to the investigation.

The search for Bella by both Helen and Ryan continues as the case begins to become more complex. Lukas and Phillip head into the city to try and forget about what they saw and end up in a gay club. Helen questions Mithat as to the whereabouts of his daughter, and discovers a note she left for her lover. Helen makes yet another deal with Kamilah, having discovered Kamilah’s sister was responsible for the bomb at Mithat’s apartment. Ryan finally catches up with Bella after she uses a stolen credit card. However, Bella’s body is later found on the outskirts of Tivoli.

Parts of Helen’s past are revealed as she tries to find out what happened to Bella. Phillip reveals to Gabe a particularly traumatic event during his childhood. Ryan tries to warn Helen off both the shooting at the cabin, and Bella’s murder. Amid the threats from the local biker gang surrounding missing drugs, Sita confronts her sister about what she thinks was affair between Chris and her sister. Phillip confesses to Helen and Gabe that he’s gay. Kamilah tries to convince her sister to wear a wire and inform on the Viscovis in return for witness protection. Lukas and Phillip engineer a sex scandal in order to dispel the gay rumours surrounding Lukas. Helen uncovers more evidence of Bella’s boyfriend, and Kamilah is arrested after drugs are found in her house.

The killer's identity is now known, by both the boys and Helen. The boys flee the hospital to hide from Ryan. The boys wind up in a motel, where they talk and eventually sleep together. Ryan is searching for the boys, and he goes to Phillip's mother's rehab and kills her. He then uses her phone to text Phillip, luring them home, where Ryan is waiting. He kidnaps both boys and leaves Lukas in the boot of his car. He holds Phillip at gunpoint for Helen to come and find them. Helen shoots Ryan to save Philip, and the case is closed.

Production

The majority of filming took place in Parry Sound, Ontario. Filming also took place in McKellar, Rosseau, Seguin, Magnetawan and Bracebridge.[20]
